Wilson Dam

Wilson Dam is built on Pravara river and this 150 meter high remarkable structure is a testament of British engineering skills. Completed by the end of 1926, at 270 feet high above river bed and 278 feet above lowest foundation, it was one of the the highest dams in Asia at that time. The foothills of the dam has been transformed into a lush green garden with huge trees which houses a large number of  bats. Thousands of tourists visit the dam during monsoon season to witness the torrential flow and the scenic greenery. A circular garden at the foothill of dam is also a favourite tourist spot.

Mythologically it is believed that Shri Agastya Rishi meditated here continuously, surviving only on water and air. Pleased with his devotion, Lord Rama blessed him with a stream of Ganga River – Amrit Vahini (Pravara River) which now flows through the hillocks of Bhandardara.
