A historical city in the state of Madhya Pradesh, Gwalior is primarily known for its medieval hilltop fort. Surrounded by high walls, the imposing fort encloses a series of beautiful palaces and temples. Gwalior holds an unparalleled reputation in Sangeet, and has retained Indian traditions and the wealth of music intact over the years. Legendary musicians like Tansen and Baiju Bawara belonged to Gwalior. With embracing structures like sandstones mosque, rock temples and magnificent statues, Gwalior cares its majestic tradition of the yesteryear.
Gwalior Fort is perched high at the top of a vast rocky massif and is visible from almost every part of the city. Considered as one of the most impregnable fortresses in central India, the Gwalior Fort was once referred to as 'the pearl amongst fortresses in India' by Mughal Emperor Babur.
Other important structures of Gwalior Fort are the Jahangir Mahal, the Karan Palace, the Shah Jahan Mahal and the Gujari Mahal. All in all, a plenty of temples are also located here that flaunts everyone with its uniqueness and architecture.
Jai Vilas Palace is reflective of the colonial period portraying the strong British influence on India, the magnificent palace is a prime example of European architecture.
Tomb of Tansen - Tansen was among one of the nine gems of the Mughal court. He was a proponent of Dhrupad style and he developed the Gwalior Gharana style of music. He was buried near to his guru and this burial site is a beautiful piece of architecture.
